Re-skilling the Allied Health Professionals in Basic Life Support

Faculty members of the School of Natural Sciences (SNS) and the School of Nursing (SON) participated in the recently held Department of Health (DOH) Basic Life Support training for healthcare providers on March 15, 2025,u at the University of Baguio RCB Dome. The activity aims to provide competencies for the initial response measures to save lives.

The intensive one-day course was facilitated by Baguio City Emergency Medical Services (BCEMS), with Mr. John Clyde Banisa as the lead resource speaker. Other civic organizations assisted in the training, including Baguio-Benguet Public Information Civic Action Group (BB-PICAG), Delta Communication, and Barangay Emergency Response Team (BERT). Throughout the activity, participants engaged in comprehensive discussions and hands-on demonstrations covering key aspects of emergency care. Topics included cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), respiratory arrest and rescue breathing, and foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) management.

As part of the evaluation process, all participants successfully completed both written assessments and return demonstrations of the skills covered in the training course. Their performance reflected their competence and readiness to apply life-saving techniques in real-life scenarios.

This training highlights the dedication of the university to strengthen the emergency response capabilities of its members in the healthcare profession. This further promotes a safer environment for all the students, faculty, and staff.
