Swapping the familiar halls of our university for the vibrant energy of Huachiew Chalermprakiet University, Samut Prakan, Thailand, a group of our BSMLS interns recently embarked on a month-long laboratory training from February 23 to March 23, 2025. This immersive program was designed to take learning beyond the textbook, offering a firsthand look at Thailand’s health practices and medical technology.

The heart of the experience was hands-on learning and exposure to different problem solving cases. Our students moved from the profound study of human anatomy in the cadaver laboratory to the thrill of solving simulated crimes with forensic analysis. They operated automated chemistry analyzers, gained insights into prevalent diseases like thalassemia, and delved into molecular diagnostics. A highlight was a visit to the Thai Red Cross Society, where they witnessed the incredible efficiency of a blood center that processes over 1,500 units daily, a true marvel of automation and logistics.

But the journey wasn’t confined to the laboratory. Students immersed themselves in Thai culture, exploring the historic Bang Lumphu Museum, navigating the bustling, sensory-rich streets of Chinatown, and the largest outdoor museum, the Ancient City. They forged connections with esteemed Thai professors and experts, who generously shared their knowledge and opened doors for future collaborations.

This trip was more than an academic trip; it was a glimpse into the future of clinical science on a global stage. Our students returned not just with enhanced technical skills but with a renewed passion and a broader perspective, ready to become the next generation of innovative and world-aware health professionals.
